Chiropractic is not limited to people suffering from pain.

Chiropractic is a type of health care that works with the nervous system as well as the musculoskeletal system.  It is used for sport and auto injury, pregnancy and The Webster Technique.

Chiropractic is just as much about preventing injury and disease as it is about relieving pain from existing conditions.

Chiropractic adjustments can help to decrease the stress that is put on the nervous system thereby allowing the body to function closer to its full capacity. There is also no age limit when it comes to chiropractic care.

Car Accident Chiropractic Care

Many people get injured in minor car accidents every year, and when someone gets rear-ended, they may experience some neck and back pain in the near future. It’s common for people to develop chronic issues as a result of their seemingly minor accident. These problems are normally dealt with by a doctor because many people don’t think about visiting a chiropractor, however, chiropractic care is the best solution for most people because it doesn’t involve drugs or surgery. Here are the top five reasons you should visit a chiropractor after being involved in an accident:

Chiropractic Works!

People who receive prompt chiropractic care after an accident are less likely to experience long-term issues. This method of care has been available for decades because it actually provides patients with results. People who continue working and staying active after an accident are the ones who will recover faster than those who stay in their bed all day. There’s no need to think about taking drugs or undergoing surgery unless it’s absolutely necessary. With most minor auto accidents, surgery is not required at all.

Chiropractic Reduces Inflammation

An X-ray is not going to catch micro-tears that occur in someone’s ligaments and muscles after an auto accident. These microscopic tears in the muscle are one of the main reasons people wake up with severe pain the day after an accident. They are a result of whiplash in most cases; muscles cannot be jerked so quickly without experiencing some negative side effects. When you go to a chiropractor, he will be able to manipulate your spine and help your body release IL-6, an important anti-inflammatory substance the body produces to help with acute injuries.

Chiropractic Restores Motion

When your neck and back are injured in an accident, the inflammation that occurs afterward is going to cause even more problems. It will slow the healing process because blood and nutrients won’t be able to reach the areas they need to. Chiropractic adjustments will mobilize your spine and allow it to begin the healing process faster than normal, which will feel amazing as it’s happening and even better the next day.

Chiropractic Reduces Scar Tissue

Most people think of old wounds on their skin when they hear the words “scar tissue,” but this type of tissue can also form inside the body as well. Muscles will develop scar tissue after an injury because it’s the body’s natural response. However, this tissue will cause one to feel stiff and uncomfortable for some time, even though it will heal naturally. A chiropractor can target the damaged areas and break up the scar tissue faster than a patient can on their own. This will help one feel better in addition to healing faster.

Chiropractic Reduces Pain Throughout the Body

Studies have shown that people who received chiropractic care after an auto injury experience less pain throughout their entire body because the physical manipulation of their body releases more pain-reducing hormones. These hormones are going to help the area that was affected by the auto accident, and also help any areas that were causing pain before the injury. Drugs for pain are not a good solution because they are highly addictive and usually cause more problems than they solve.

Pregnancy Care

Chiropractic Care Is A Safe, Effective Practice During Pregnancy

Not only can routine chiropractic care help manage pain in your back, hips, and joints, it can also establish pelvic balance. That can provide your baby with as much space as possible over the course of your pregnancy.

Currently, the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) recommends women receive chiropractic care throughout pregnancy to establish pelvic balance and optimize the room a baby has for development throughout pregnancy.

The Webster Technique for Breech Deliveries

The Webster Technique is allowing a balanced state in the pelvis. It has been clinically shown to allow for optimal fetal positioning.

With a balanced pelvis, babies have a greater chance of moving into the correct position for birth, and the crisis and worry associated with breech and posterior presentations may be avoided altogether.

Optimal baby positioning at the time of birth also eliminates the potential for dystocia (difficult labor) and, therefore, results in easier and safer deliveries for both the mother and baby.

It is considered normal by some for a baby to present breech until the third trimester. Most birth practitioners are not concerned with breech presentations until a patient is 37 weeks along. Approximately 4% of all pregnancies result in a breech presentation.

It may be beneficial to perform the Webster Technique, as soon as the 8th month of pregnancy, when a woman has a breech presentation.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is safe, minimally discomforting and an effective technique for patients with certain musculoskeletal presentations.

Dry needling can be used for a wide variety of musculoskeletal issues, such as shoulder, neck, heel, elbow, hip and back pain.

Dry needling is a treatment performed by skilled, trained physical therapists, certified in the procedure like Dr. Scott Shearer.  It is an effective and efficient technique for the treatment  of muscular pain and myofascial release. Dry needling or intramuscular stimulation is a technique extremely effective for relaxing overactive muscles, which contain trigger points. In simple terms, the treatment involves needling of a muscles trigger points without injecting any substance.

A thin monofilament needle penetrates the skin and treats underlying muscular trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.  Dry needling treats muscle tissue; and its goal is to reduce pain, inactivate trigger points and restore function. It rarely is a standalone procedure. Rather, it often is part of a broader physical therapy approach incorporating other traditional physical therapy interventions into treatment.
